Joe received his college degree in business administration and his law degree with magna cum laude honors. As a bonus, Joe has been licensed and engaged in the private practice of law in North Carolina since 1977, with extensive experience in real estate, construction law and civil litigation matters.
In addition to State courts, Joe is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court and various other federal courts, including the U.S. Tax Court.
Above all, Joe has been blessed with a long marriage and two children, who have further blessed him with three grandchildren.

Jim Small joined the firm in 2013 as an associate attorney and became partner in 2020. Jim received his undergraduate degree in prelaw with high honors from Bob Jones University and his law degree from Campbell University Law School. While a student at Campbell, he worked as a research assistant to the director of the legal writing and research program, and interned at the Research Division of the North Carolina General Assembly. Jim was also a senior staff writer for the Campbell Law Observer, the school’s legal newspaper. He and his wife live in Wake Forest, where Jim enjoys woodworking and home improvement projects in his spare time.
